Coombe Abbey (En)
It has been Summer weather in England so we have enjoyed going to see rural pubs and places with the convertible car of Ben’s mum and seeing friends.
Friday was the hottest day in the UK, up to 33 degrees! And we went to see Coombe Abbey near Coventry. During the 12th century, the building was known as the Abbey of Cumbe, and was the largest and most influential monastery in Warwickshire. The land was given to the Cistercian monks. they accepted the gift and began the building of a monastery dedicated to the Blessed Virgin. The monastery was well known for its generosity in distributing gifts to the poor. The monks lost the Abbey in 1539 because of the dissolution of monasteries under Henry VIII. Since then numerous alterations and additions have been made over the centuries. However, some of the cloisters have been preserved and can still be seen in the present building.
Today it is a hotel that hosts weddings and events and the land has been converted into a park to be used by everybody. Asha had fun playing and running around and we had a long walk as the park is huge with a beautiful lake.
In the UK on Sundays, they go to eat the Sunday roast, typically lunch on Sundays, with roast meat such as beef, lamb, pork, chicken and turkey. Today Ben took me to a pub which does the Sunday Roast in a buffet, so you ask for the meat you want and put all the side dishes you want. Side dishes such as roast potatoes, mashed potatoes, carrots, onions, cauliflower cheese, Yorkshire pudding and gravy. I had pork and turkey and Ben had beef. It is a massive amount of food! All for 10 pounds, I don’t think I will eat anything else today.
And tomorrow we are starting our way to Scotland, stopping in the Yorkshire Dales that suppose to be beautiful and the Lake district until we arrive in Scotland. And all that in the next posts!
