Spain – Galicia – Coruña – Valdoviño (En)

Valdoviño is a town in Coruña province located in the comarca of Ferrol and has a population of 6.926 inhabitants. We are staying in Camping Valdoviño located 300 metres from the beach and it has all the commodities, a swimming pool, restaurant, little supermarket and pizzeria with a wood oven, the showers are really big with amazing water pressure, and all really good price, 18 euros with the Acsi card. The plots are pretty big and our one was in front of the swimming pool, behind the swimming pool is the surf club.

Valdoviño is famous for its beaches and surf, such as Frouxeira, Baleo and Campelo beach, also for its Frouxeira Lagoon and the Ocean Surf Museum. Our camping is full of surfers. The camping is next to the Frouxeira beach and lagoon. There was an English couple swimming in the pool and they challenged me to go in as the water was really cold! But I did it! After my swim in the pool, we went to see the beach and lagoon where Asha has a ball playing and swam in both, the sea and the lagoon. The lagoon water was pretty nice. There are really cool beach bars and restaurants on the beachfront and the rocks and dunes on the beach are stunning!

My cousin Alicia who lives in Ferrol really near to here told us that here in Valdoviño the food is really good and recommends a restaurant called El Gitano, and the restaurant is next to our camping so we are going today to have lunch there with Mike and Sue, an English couple that we met in the camping in Foz. We went to the restaurant before 1 pm and all was booked but we could book a table for 2.45 pm. So we went then and we decided to have the menu of the day, for starter Ben, Mike and I ordered the seafood soup and Sue the fabada that we all tried and thought was lighter than in Asturias. And for the second Ben and I ordered the monkfish with seafood sauce and peas and Mike and Sue the grilled hake. All were delicious and we finished really full but the waiter pressed us to have dessert so we had some melon.

We finished lunch around 5 pm and then we went back to the camping as the sun was out and have some drinks, play with Asha, listening music and discovered that the Queen of England just has died. Mike has a flag from Gibraltar from the marines.

We were drinking and chatting until near 10.30 pm, we said bye to Mike and Sue in case tomorrow morning we don’t see them but we are pretty sure that we will see them again as they are doing their way to Portugal as us. And tomorrow we are off to Ferrol to meet my cousin Alicia!

We had a lovely time too. Asha is fine, although today’s boat trip (see next blog post) was rather traumatic;-). Hope to see you again. All the best Ben & Cristina X
