Spain – Asturias – Ribadesella (En)

We went camping at Los Sauces beach in Ribadesella, located near one end of the Ribadesella beach and a few minutes on the motorbike to the town. The camping has a restaurant and a pool table with a shop to buy bread, beer and other little things. The facilities are good, very clean and the plots are big. The staff are charming and funny. Some of them were telling me that the sea water was freezing and others telling me that it was not and betting me to swim, and I did swim!

On the first day, we went with Asha to see the beach. The views are amazing both to the coast and mountains and to the town. In the marina, there is a little bar where they have a drink called Covadonga, slush puppies of beer, wine, cider or mixed alcoholic beverages. We wanted to try but the slush machine was broken that day! Hopefully, we can try it before we leave.

On Friday we went to see the town on the motorbike. Ribadesella is known for its location on the Cantabrian Sea, at the outlet of the River Sella and it is a town that forms part of the Peaks of Europe. It is also the home town of Queen Letizia of Spain. The town is also known for its prehistoric cave, known as the cave of Tito Bustillo declared World Heritage by UNESCO, we went to see it but it was closed. The town has two main streets and in the Calle Comercio is the Old town, where the old square is located, as well as Sta Maria Magdalena Church and the 16-century Palace of the Pietro-Cutre family. By the way, here they serve the cider with a kind of bucket underneath to take the spilt liquid, in Llanes they were braver!

That night it was a concert at the camping bar. The singer was very good at the guitar but not a very good singer, we thought the girls were better. And the next day Saturday we went to the beach to swim and we did, the water was very nice and not freezing but we did not realize that it was a red flag, because there are always waves, and the lifeguard told us to come back to the shore! And we have been on the beach these days.

And tomorrow Tuesday we are going to Lastres, a fishing town located on the Eastern Shore and that has been named the most beautiful town in Spain! So you will see it in the next post.
