Spain – Huelva – La Palma del Condado (En)

On Friday we arrived in La Palma del Condado a town in the province of Huelva and we stayed in the town area for motorhomes with load and unloaded of black and grey waters. The site is located in a big area where the town celebrates its party and is just 5 minute’s walk to the town centre.

There is a lot to see in La Palma del Condado since its old town was declared a Site of Cultural Interest in 2002. We started visiting the main square which is called Spain Square, one of the most beautiful in Huelva. On one side of the square you can find the Arch House, considered the oldest house in the town and which was probably a convent since a mosaic of Santa Teresa de Jesus is preserved in the facade. In the square is also the Church of San Juan Bautista from the year 1768, which is a good example of Sevillian late Baroque from the 18th century and was declared a Monument of Cultural Interest in 2003.

From there we went to see the Town Hall, which is the old Tirado House from 1842, where its plinths, arches and columns stand out, located in the centre of the town between Spain square and the Corazon de Jesus square. This square is called this because of the image that presides over it, which was carved in Rome by the sculptor Antonio Soldan. In this square, you find the old Town Hall with a monumental neo-renaissance style facade in which neo-baroque and neogothic elements are mixed.

Then we wandered through the streets of the town and saw the Chapel of the Santa Cruz and we looked for a winery since they are typical of the town where we could have lunch, which turned out to be quite difficult, as many wineries were closed and we could not find any restaurant. After asking several locals, who by the way are super nice and friendly, we end up in a square where there was a bar with tables outside and it was quite full, but they didn’t serve food so we had some wines and they gave us some lupins to eat.

The owner of the bar told us that in the corner a little further down there was a bar that serves tapas and food and we went there to have lunch. By the way, the tapas were huge and only for 3 euros! We share squid and prawns meatballs for the first time and they were pretty good, pork ribs and steak in whiskey sauce, the pork was delicious!

After another walk through the town, we went back to our motorhome and on Saturday we prepared to go to Jerez de la Frontera in the province of Cadiz where another of my cousins lives. And you can see this in the next post!
