France – Serrières (En)
Serrières with 1100 inhabitants, is located in the Ardèche department. Populated since the Roman conquest, the small town still has traces of the Gallo-Roman era.
Where to stay
We stayed in the town’s Camping-Car Aire (45.312459, 4.773347 lat, long) which is free and next to the Rhône River, a very beautiful place with herons and swans. It has a good area for emptying and filling grey and black water and also garbage cans. There are only 6 places and in the afternoon it was already full. You can walk to the small town.
What to see
A fortified village, Serrières still has a beautiful historical heritage leaving traces of different centuries that made it famous. The charm of the old quarters and the interest in the ancient stones as well as original and interesting museums each year attract large numbers of visitors. Highlight the Parish of Saint Croix du Rhone and the Mariniers Museum.
We returned to walking along the river bank where we admired the views and were able to see several herons.
The next stop Pont-de-Vaux on the edge of the Saône River with the smallest navigable canal in France, 4 km that takes you to the heart of the town which you can see in the next blog!
