France – Pont-de-Vaux (En)
Classified as a green holiday resort, the town of Pont-de-Vaux now attracts many visitors eager to discover its natural and architectural heritage. Pont-de-Vaux also has a fishing pond and a port that opens the doors to almost 1,200 kilometres of navigable waterways in Burgundy.
Where to stay
We stayed at Camping Le Champ d’été (46.4296, 4.93312 lat, long) beside the town and the beautiful lake. We paid 16.50 euros per day with the ACSI card. The dishwashing area was good with hot water, the washing machine was 4 euros and the black and grey water loading and unloading area was easy to access and use. The toilet with a lid and paper! The showers were not good, the water came out warm and cold! I found a hot shower but hardly any water came out and I had to press the button constantly. It has a ping pong table which we enjoyed. The place is fine if the showers have hot water, but the town with its lake and port is beautiful!
What to see
The flooded meadow of the Saône is an important natural monument where we saw dozens of species of plants and birds in this protected natural site. Signposted hiking trails are accessible all over and around the town and also has a fishing pond.
We recommend the local market held every Wednesday morning in the streets of the town, where you can find local products such as many kinds of cheeses produced in the area, white asparagus and strawberries.
The port of Pont-de-Vaux opens the doors to almost 1,200 kilometres of navigable waterways in Burgundy and is close to the centre of the town, where you can find the church and the town hall.
Next stop Beaune, a walled city in the center of the Burgundy wine region, which you can see in the next blog!
