France – Biscarrosse-Plage (En)

Biscarrosse-Beach is a coastal town located midway along the Atlantic coast of the Landes. It surprised us with its vast beach featuring dunes and pine forests, as well as its lively town, which boasts surf schools, an evening seafood market, and numerous seafront bars and restaurants.

Where to stay

We stayed at the 4* Campéole Plage Sud campsite (44.440498, -1.2458 lat, long), a 4-star campsite that costs 20 euros with the all-inclusive Acsi card. The staff are super friendly and speak English and some Spanish. When we arrived, they told us it was full, but they found us a spot for that day and reserved another one for the following three days. The lady spent over an hour with us until she had everything sorted out. The campsite has everything: two heated pools and one with a jacuzzi, paddle tennis courts, mini-golf, ping-pong tables, a bar with games and live music, a bakery, and a stand selling pizzas and hamburgers.

There are several facilities around the campsite, with a large area for washing dishes and emptying the chemical toilet. The showers are very spacious with a changing area and hot water, although not very powerful. The toilets don’t have seats, and there’s no toilet paper, although when you arrive at reception, they give you a roll of toilet paper and dishwashing liquid . The grey water emptying area is on the right when you enter the campsite, but it’s difficult to navigate from any other side of the campsite. Drinking water is available at the pitches, some of which are dirt and others are sandy. They are spacious, but not all are level.

There’s a communal play area, and next door is the laundry room, which has washing machines for €6.50 and dryers for €5.50. Dogs are welcome, and dog showers and waste bags are available throughout the campsite.

There’s a supermarket at the campsite entrance, and you’re just 10 minutes away from the town centre and 3 more minutes from the beach. We really enjoyed the campsite’s facilities. I recommend it for a few days to enjoy the beach and everything it has to offer.

What to see

We walked from the campsite and arrived at the town centre, where you’ll find the village church and a square with the tourist office surrounded by bars. From there, you’ll reach the main street lined with shops and the seafood market, which opens at 4:30 p.m.

At the end of the street is the boardwalk, where there is a giant Ferris wheel and the beach with dunes. We enjoyed the beach, where there were plenty of waves, and I ended up getting rolled in one. Ben, as usual, thought the water was freezing and only went in up to his knees.

After enjoying our last few days at the beach, we headed to Biarritz on the French Basque coast, famous for the Rocher de la Vierge, a rocky outcrop crowned by a statue of the Virgin Mary, which you can see in the next blog!
