France – Pampelonne Beach (En)

We had heard a lot about Pampelonne Beach, but we didn’t know why it was so famous. It turns out it became famous thanks to Brigitte Bardot, who filmed the movie “And God Created Woman” there, transforming this pristine spot into a glamorous and fashionable haven for celebrities. The famous Pampelonne, with its 4.5 kilometres of fine sand, is located in the municipality of Ramatuelle. It is currently classified as a protected natural site.

Where to stay

We stayed at the Bonne Terrasse camping car area (43.211267, 6.66225 latitude, longitude) in the municipality of Ramatuelle. Since it was low season, we paid €13 per day with WiFi included, which was good. From April onwards, it’s €25 per day. The site is fantastic. It’s very large, and you can park wherever you like. The water filling and emptying area is double and very easy to access. It has two chemical toilets and drinking water. The rubbish bins are at the entrance. There’s also an area for washing dishes and clothes. It’s right next to the beach, accessible via sandy paths. On the beach, there’s a bar/restaurant next to the site and a beach bar a 5-minute walk away. I recommend it in the low season, as the place is fantastic and not crowded.

What to see

The best thing to do here is enjoy the beach and take walks. We had a picnic on the beach and saw a very brave young man going for a swim. We took different routes to get to the beach: the first led to the L’Esquinade bar/restaurant and the second to a beach bar. Both were very lively, even at this time of year.

There are two famous bars on Pampelonne beach: Club 55, popularised by Bardot and the film crew in 1955, and Tono, which we visited but didn’t order anything because it was expensive.

And since we were in the area, it was essential to visit Saint-Tropez, the luxurious and renowned coastal city, which you can see in the next blog post.
