France – Granville (En)

Granville boasts a charming, fortified old town and a lively seaside resort atmosphere, offering a vibrant cultural scene, stunning coastal views, and excellent seafood. In the upper walled city, filled with beautiful stone mansions, shops, galleries, creperies, and restaurants, you can explore its historic walls and see its Gothic church.

Where to stay

We stayed at the Parking du Roc for motorhomes (48.8353, -1.6095 lat, long), which costs 12 euros per day. There’s a water refill facility, but it costs 3.3 euros, and emptying grey and black water is free. It’s located on the cliffs next to the lighthouse and the bunker, with incredible views of the city and the port. It’s a 5-minute walk from the old town. Recommended for exploring the city and spending the night.

What to see

We walked to the walled upper city, which is less than five minutes away. You enter through a stone archway, and the first thing you see is Notre Dame Church, a Gothic church where you can visit the chapel of Our Lady. From around the church, you can enjoy stunning views of the port and the city, as well as an impressive multi-towered house.

We walk down the centre, filled with beautiful stone mansions, shops, galleries, creperies, and restaurants, until we reach the port.

We arrived at the port, which was packed with restaurants and bars. Granville’s signature dish is seafood, and some restaurants serve fresh seafood that you can choose from and have cooked to order.

We decided to have lunch at one of the port restaurants and chose Le Bistro Nomik, which we recommend because the food was excellent and the price was good. For starters, we shared shrimp, and for the main, Ben ordered a steak with pepper sauce, and I ordered the fish of the day.

We climbed the cliff until we reached the lighthouse and the bunker area, where you can walk around the cliffs with stunning views.

The next day, we went to Hauteville-sur-Mer, a town with an exceptional coastline and great beaches, which you can see in the next blog!
