Spain – Galicia – Santiago – Part I (En)

Last Tuesday we left Guntín and stopped to spend the day in Teiraboa Basecamp, camping in Arzua. It is not cheap, 30 euros, but it is new with a restaurant, swimming pool and fresh and clean facilities. We do not give it 5 stars because the sinks for washing dishes are cold water but we took advantage of all facilities, washing our clothes, having showers and swimming in the pool all day where we met a lot of pilgrims doing the Santiago way.

On Wednesday we arrived at Os Tilos where my cousin Pepe and Raquel (his wife) live and we parked outside of the municipal pool just in front of their house. The place is perfect to visit Santiago as the bus stop is just there and there is a dog park. Pepe and Raquel came to the motorhome to see it and Asha fell in love with Raquel the first sight and at the end of the day, Raquel was in love with Asha also! And they took us to see some coastal towns.

The first place we visited was Porto do Son a town in Coruña province, surrounded by the rivers Muros and Noia, and you can see Muros, the town that we visited with Tino on the Death Coast. We walked around the town and had a drink before lunch.

Pepe was book a restaurant for 2 pm for lunch so we went there. The restaurant specialized in seafood, fish and steaks. We shared a seafood platter with clams, barnacles, razor clams, volandeiras (scallops) nécoras (crab) and buey (brown crab). Delicious! Ben and I ate a lot of barnacles and Ben was saying these are even better than last time, hahaha. We also shared a fish platter and had an amazing white wine that Pepe choose. Asha had a great time as the people at the tables next to us were eating massive steaks and they were giving Asha a lot of meat, they even gave us a doggie bag to take for her. Pepe teaches us that if you put wine in the crab the flavour is amazing and it is true, really good.

From here we went to see the Castro de Baroña which is a settlement built on a peninsula, placing its occupation in the 1st century BC to 1st century AC. It had two walls around it and twenty houses with a circular or oval floor plan are preserved. It is an amazing place, all rocks and a white sand beach where Raquel and I found a lot of shells for my collection and where Pepe and Ben went to the top!

We went back to where we parked and because it was really hot we stopped to have a drink in the bar, we were so comfortable and chatting that when we finished we just left and the waiter had to come running and tell us that we did not pay! We apologised and paid and the waiter told us that he saw us so good he did not want to bother us, hahaha. From there we went to Corrubedo lighthouse to see the sunset and we arrived just in time, the views are amazing!

We went back to Os Tilos and we went to have some food in Pepe and Raquel’s house where finally Raquel fall for Asha as she was following her around and sitting next to her. We tried cherry homemade liqueur and Ben ate two of the cherries and he finished pretty drunk and suffered the consequences the next morning, hahaha. I was not that brave but the liqueur was really good!

We finished the day and arrange to meet the next day to go to visit Santiago city. Thank you very much to Pepe and Raquel for an amazing day, we had a lovely time!
