Spain – Galicia – Portomarin & Guntin (En)
Last Friday as I said we went to Guntín in Lugo province where on Saturday we were to meet Ovidio, a friend of my parents that I know all my life. The idea was to stay in Guntin in the motorhome area but when we arrived the road was a pebble road really steep so if we go down with the motorhome we will not be able to go up again! So we decided to go to the nearest motorhome area as that was in a town called Portomarín, 15 minutes driving and pass the night there.
Portomarín was flooded in 1963 when the Belesar reservoir was built, before the flooding, it was declared a Historical Artistic Monument and it is one of the most famous legs of the Santiago way so it is full of pilgrims. When we arrived it was really lively with pilgrims. Things to see in the town are the Virgen de las Nieves chapel, the Romanic church of San Pedro, its origin from the 10th century and the church of San Nicolás from the 12th century that is located in the town square.
We went to one of the many bars in the town and we shared a pizza as we had only eaten a sandwich for breakfast, afterwards we went to see the rest of the town and saw the San Pedro church.
The next day Saturday we went again to Guntín and we parked outside of Ovidio’s house. Ovidio and Ana meet us there and took us to lunch cocido a kind of stew with cabbage, chickpeas, potatoes, chorizo and pork, really yummy, finishing with the typical herbs liqueur. After lunch, we went back to Ovidio’s house and he was really kind to let us park inside the property and stay for a few days with electricity and water.
Thank you very much to Ovidio and Ana for letting us stay here and for a delicious meal. It was a pleasure to see you!
And today Monday we are still here, I am updating the blog and Ben working. Tomorrow Tuesday we are going to Arzúa to a camping and on Wednesday we will arrive in Os Tilos to meet my cousin Pepe!
