Holland – Zeeland – Zierikzee (En)
We stayed in the camping T’Uulof in a little city called Zierikzee where we saw Bea and Javi, a Spanish couple that we met in Saumur, France, and this time we took pictures, at least for the evening that we saw them as they left next day and we will stay for a few days. The camping is ok but you have to pay 50 cents to have hot water in the shower, so for me, it was 1 euro if I wash my hair. Many camping in Holland charge to use the hot water in the shower to minimize the use of water. The location is great as you can walk to the centre of the city and there is a Lidl and Aldi supermarkets really near. The dogs are welcome also and they can play outside. The price of the camping is really good as it is high season and all the campings are really expensive, this is 21 euros per night. The owner lives just behind the reception and she is only in the reception 30 minutes in the morning and 30 minutes in the evening, but you can ring the bell and she will come. When we arrived we didn’t see anybody and we went straight in and parked, the owner did not like that very much, haha. She must love owls as there are owls all over the place.
Thank you very much to Bea and Javi for all the advice about where to stay and what to see in Holland and France. We hope to see you again here in Holland or in Asturias in Spain.
The following days we went to see the city. Zierikzee is 50 km southwest of Rotterdam and has more than 500 monuments, the old legendary harbour, shops aplenty and a gala of terraces. Some of the monuments are De Dikke Toren which rises to give you, after 279 steps, a bouquet of views over the town, the bridge and the island. Next to it, is the Nieuwe Kerk built between 1835 and 1848. The Stadhuismuseum was the 16th-century Stadhuis town hall and explains just about everything about the harbour town’s history and monuments. The Cameramuseum where was a National Geographic exhibition and the City gates were built in the 14th century in front of them you can see the historic buildings in Oude Haven.
It is a little town and amazing with all the monuments. On Saturday was the shanty festival and the sailors were singing in the city square their typical sailor songs. The city streets are very alive with bars, shops and terraces very cute.
We had lunch in one of the restaurants in the square where we met our camping neighbours, an old Dutch couple really nice. We shared a plate with 3 little sole fish, coliflower cheese, salad, chips and a prown sauce. The prawn sauce was yummy! After lunch, we went to see the rest of the town.
Today we are thinking of going to see the windmills and tomorrow we are going to Middleburg, the capital of the province of Zeeland.

Owl is in the name ‘t Uulhof. Uul is dialect for Uil, which is owl in Dutch. 😉
