Pas-de-Calais Department – Wimereux (En)
Last Tuesday we arrived at Wimereux town, at the camping L’Olympic. The town is on the beach and is beautiful! The camping is the municipal camping and the facilities are ok, with good water and pressure in the showers. But again no toilet paper or seats in the toilets. And a really bizarre thing, to shower they gave you a key fob and you have to leave a 50 euros deposit that they will give you back when you leave. The camping is at the beginning of the town and in front of the beach, so you can walk all over the town. We recommend this camping for its location, as you can go also walking to Boulogne and on the way you can si a bunker of the second world war. Also, it is only 30 minutes to the Eurotunnel to cross to England.
The town is beautiful with shops and houses really cute, a river with a bridge and the beach. First, we saw the town, until we arrived at the river and bridge and from there we went to the beach. The houses are amazing!
We arrived at the beach where there are many restaurants with fish and seafood. We had dinner in a restaurant in front of the beach, not expensive and very popular. We shared a combined plate of mackerel fish, potatoes, mussels, tomato salad and a fish sauce, and also a bowl of mussels. The bowl of mussels is huge with a white wine sauce and they served it with chips. The bigger bowl of mussels that we have eaten and so delicious is our favourite mussels up to date. It is no surprise that everybody was eating the mussels as they were really nice and only 11 euros! By the way, I drank 3 glasses of sangria because it was delicious.
We returned to the camping from the beach. When the tide is low the sea is really far from the shore and a rock pool is created in the middle, pretty cool to swimming. A long the beach there are very cute houses also and many restaurants. We love this town, full of life and we are really happy to be here.
