Pas-de-Calais – Boulogne (En)

We went walking to Boulogne which has one of the biggest ports in France. We did not take Asha because she hurt her paw playing that morning so we left her in the motorhome. There are two ways to go to Boulogne, next to the road or next to the cliff and the sea. We took this last one, it took us near one hour to arrive. The views of the sea and lighthouse were really nice but the way was a little difficult because it was all stones. We arrived at Boulogne and the first thing you see in the town is the harbour and the beach. On the beach, they have buggy windsurfing.

As in France, the restaurants closed really early, we decided to have lunch first. We found a popular and not expensive restaurant and we had skatefish. I think it was the first time that I tried it, and I liked it but the portions were really small as you can see in the picture.

After lunch, we went to see the town. There are streets with many stairs going up, a park in front of the harbour and a place with seals. The harbour is massive and the town buildings are not as nice as in Wimereux, they are more modern. It caught our attention that there were many places called “Fritters” in the avenue where they serve drinks and chips in a baguette. There were many people eating baguettes filled with chips! I thought it was very bizarre.

We took the way next to the road to come back so we could see the second world war bunker that the Germans built to defend against the allied forces. From Wimereux there are tours to see the bunker but we are not going to do it. The views of Wimereux arriving are pretty cool.

We did not like Boulogne too much but when we arrived at the camping our German neighbours told us that there is an old town surrounded by a wall and a castle on the top of Boulogne. So we will go this evening or tomorrow Saturday to see it. We will go with the motorbike because it is pretty far away and uphill. And you can see this in the next post!

By the way, Asha paw is ok now and she is playing like always, also we took her today to the veterinarian so he can sign her passport to go to England and he said she is very healthy 🙂

      Hi,

I am glad Asha is okay.

Nice pics. Now I am reading in your post about the baguette with chips, I remember that, in october, we saw that too. That was on our way to Spain, through the west of France. We found it rather strange too, but the trucker who ordered it ate the whole thing and it was biggggg!

We are at home now since yesterday.

      Kind regards, Cor and Mar🫂🫂

        Hi,
Did Cor has good fishing? This is our last day in France and yesterday we went to see the castle in Boulogne, pretty impressive and inside the walls is the old city. I am going to put it now in the blog and tomorrow England!
        Xxxxx

      Hi,

No, the fishing was not so good, so we left there after a week, instead of two weeks.
In The Netherlands we stayed 3 nights on a camping and there he fished one day very well.
The other day we went to visit a friend.

      XOXO
