Our review
If you want to visit Le Mans, this is the place to stay. The location is the best thing about it: a five-minute walk from the old town, with its beautiful half-timbered houses and the Gothic cathedral.
It's free unless you need water (8 euros for 10 minutes). There's no electricity, but there is an emptying point for grey and black water. With only eight spaces you need to arrive early: we arrived at 9.30am and took the last one, and the spaces that came free during the morning were taken straight away by motorhomes waiting for them. If it's full, you can park in the car park next door. The maximum stay is 24 hours.
The area sits right beside the Gallo-Roman walls, and at night The Night of Chimaeras – a show of images and sound projected onto the city's buildings and monuments – lights them up. We watched its display of the city's history on the walls next to the area. We'd recommend it to anyone visiting this incredible city.
