HOLLAND – Kinderdijk Windmills – Dordrecht (En)

On Monday we went to see the Kinderdijk windmills, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. To arrive there we have to take a ferry from Dordrecht and to arrive at the ferry we followed Cor. Cor was riding his bicycle and we were on our motorbike. Holland has the best roads in Europe and there are bike lanes in all the places, cities and towns and the scooters can use them too! So we followed Cor in the bike lane until we arrive at the ferry. On the ferry, you go with the bikes and scooters and it is FREE! The ferry is very fast and all the time that stop is an adventure, several bikes fell and a woman fell on the top of them, poor thing she was hurt. The ferry goes from Dordrecht to Rotterdam and our stop was the third one. By the way, the ferry company is called Blue Amigo!

We went out at the third stop and then 15 minutes driving with the motorbike until we arrive at the windmills. The windmills at Kinderdijk are a group of 19 monumental windmills. Most of the mills are part of the village of Kinderdijk and one mill, De Blokker, is part of the municipality of Alblasserdam. Built-in 1738 and 1740, to keep water out of the polder, it is the largest concentration of old windmills in the Netherlands. The mills are listed as national monuments and the entire area is a protected village view since 1993. They have been a Unesco World Heritage Site since 1997.

Then we ride back to take the ferry back to Dordrecht and when we arrived we went to see the old town. Dordrecht is the province’s fifth-largest city in the province of South Holland and is the oldest city in Holland and has a rich history and culture. The city has many water channels and old buildings so it is very beautiful.

We went back to our parking via the bike lane. Then we went to Mariana and Cor’s house where they were so kind to take care of Asha when we were tourism around. We had dinner and say our goodbyes.

Thank you very much to Mariana and Cor for all, you are amazing and the best and we hope to see you in Spain in winter. Big kisses and see you soon!
