Holland – Tienhoven – Gouda (En)
Due to the heat, we decided to go a camping in Tienhoven near to the river where you can swimm. The camping is called café de Koekoek, with huge plots. We parked under a tree so we had shade. The facilities are ok but we could not find where to wash the dishes, so we did in the motorhome as we have a water tap just outside. It was 38 degrees so the first thing we did was going for a swim in the river and after lunch we went to a little beach just 100 metres from our plot. The river is very big and there are many boats and waterbikes going around. Asha had a really good time playing and swimming in the little beach. We recommend this camping if you want to spend one or two days in the nature.
From here we went to Gouda as it was only 21 degrees and cloudy. Gouda is a city in the province of South Holland. It’s known for its namesake cheese and seasonal cheese market, regularly held on the medieval Markt square. Anchoring the square is the 15th-century town hall, a Gothic building with red and white shutters. Also on the square is the 17th-century Goudse Waag, once a cheese-weighing station and now home to the Gouda cheese museum.
We had lunch in one of the restaurants in the square. We had the typical croquet which is huge so they only give you two, we choose cheese and beef croquet and they were yummy. We also had a cheese plater, with different gouda cheeses and spread cheese as Brie. After lunch, we went to see the rest of the city and the Gouda Museum. All the cities and towns in Holland have channels in the streets, so they are very cute with water everywhere.
We passed the night in Gouda as the city has a motorhome parking with electricity for just 8 euros where we parked when we arrived. It is great, every city should have this kind of parking so thank you Gouda for thinking about motorhome travellers.
