Italy – Spotorno (En)

We went to Spotorno, in the province of Savona, because we had read that it was a charming coastal town with beautiful beaches and historic buildings. And it certainly didn’t disappoint. We loved the town centre, full of narrow streets with the cutest shops, bars, and restaurants. Truly, a beach town brimming with character.

Where to stay

We stayed at the village’s motorhome area (44.237202, 8.43445 lat, long), right across from the beach and a 10-minute walk from the centre. The area costs €16 per day. There’s a water disposal point to the right of the entrance. To fill your drinking water tank, there’s a tap with a hose next to the attendant’s booth. The attendant is in the area from 9 am to 7 pm. If you arrive later, park wherever you like or find a space, and the very friendly attendant will see you in the morning. The area is quite large, so it’s perfect for motorhomes over 8 meters long. It’s very easy to access. The best thing about it is its location, right across from the beach where there’s an open beach bar. You reach the beach via a footbridge next to the area. You can also walk to the village centre along a path that runs for kilometres along the beach, with stunning views. I highly recommend this place for visiting this charming village and strolling along the cliffs.

What to see

We walked towards the town centre along the path by the beach. That path leads to the town’s promenade. Along the way, we took beautiful photos of the beach, the breakwaters with the fishing boats, and the charming island of Bergeggi.

We arrived in the centre and wandered through the narrow streets, full of shops, bars, and restaurants that we loved. We bought bread at a bakery that sold typical local pastries; it seemed very popular, as there was a queue.

Then we went to see the Church of the Holy Annunciation, located along the main street. The main facade is decorated with frescoes. We were very surprised by the interior, as it is quite impressive, as you can see in the photos.

We ended up on the other side of town, passed through a park and returned along the seafront.

In the afternoon, we went for a walk along the path by the cliffs, where you have the best view of the island of Bergeggi.

The next day, we went to enjoy the beach and the beach bar, where we had a beer and a glass of wine, and they gave us free tapas. Ben ate all the tapas, since they had hard-boiled eggs, and I’m allergic to eggs! So expensive, 16 euros for a beer and a glass of wine!

Our next stop is in Tuscany to visit Pisa, world-renowned for the Leaning Tower, which you can see in the next blog post.
