Germany – Bavaria – Bad Aibling (En)
Bad Aibling is a charming town, home to many idyllic scenes and picturesque architecture. It’s here where the Glonn Creek meets the Mangfall River.
Where to stay
We stayed in the town’s motorhome area (47.856098, 12.0066 lat, long) a few steps from the thermal baths. The area costs 15 euros per day including electricity, free waste disposal and water for 1 euro for 80 liters. There is free wifi but it doesn’t work very well. The city centre is within walking distance and so is the beautiful park with its lake. With the area ticket, you have a 10% discount on the thermal baths, but they are quite expensive, 20 euros if you go after 7 pm, where you can shower. We didn’t go.
What to see
The number one attraction in town is the Therme Spa. This incredible building, with surprisingly stunning architecture, offers a vast range of treatments. This spa uses locally sourced peat in some treatments. The peat is nutrient-rich and used in many things from skin conditions to arthritis.
We toured the town, where the most notable thing is the architecture of the houses, the church of St Sebastian in the town square which we could see inside, the canals that run through it and the Abbey at the top of a hill.
Then we went to see the Kurpark, which is worth seeing. Of particular interest is the lake, which is beautiful and what we liked the most. The park has a minigolf and areas to play tennis and sports. In the middle of Kurpark sits Kurhaus, where various events and concerts are held.
And from there we went to Altötting, one of the most beautiful towns we have seen, and one of the most important pilgrimage centres in Germany, which you can see in the next post!
