Germany – Bavaria – Bad Tölz (En)

Bad Tölz, bathed by the Isar River, is a small city with a charming historic centre, in an idyllic natural environment.

Where to stay

We stayed in the motorhome area of the town (47.763394, 11.549587 lat, long) on the banks of the Isar River, a beautiful place. The area costs 16 euros a day, but if you stay less time you pay less. Grey and black water can be discharged for free, but filling water costs 1 euro for 50 litres. The location is idyllic and perfect, a 3-minute walk along the banks of the river and you are in the centre.

What to see

We walked along the banks of the Isar River, where what is most impressive is the alpine landscape and the views of the city. You cross a bridge with incredible views and arrive at the centre.

When you cross you reach the historic centre main street, full of restaurants and shops. Some houses are from the 18th century and still preserve the frescoes on their facades. You can highlight the old town hall where the city museum is today.

Then we went to see the Gothic-style church of the Assumption, whose current building dates back to 1466 and which we visited inside.

What to eat

We went to eat the typical brunch at Cafe Love, on a terrace high above the river with incredible views of the city. The brunch can be a cheese platter with fruits and different types of bread, or a platter with various cheeses, charcuterie, fruits and various breads. We decided to try the cheese platter and we were delighted. It was one of the best cheese platters we have ever eaten. And since it was almost lunchtime, I had sex on the beach cocktail and Ben a pint of beer. The brunch cost us only 11 euros!

In the evening we went for a walk along the banks of the Isar River.

Our next stop in Bavaria is Bad Aibling, a spa town on the river Mangfall, which you can see in the next post!
