Italy – Veneto – Borghetto (En)

Borghetto is one of Italy’s most beautiful medieval villages, which conserved its surprising medieval appearance as a fortified station on the Mincio River. The village’s structure and name date back to the Longobard period. It is one of the most beautiful villages, with gorgeous and lovely restaurants, bars, and spectacular views.

We stayed in Camping Parcheggio Virgilio (45.353298, 10.7204 lats, long) only 5 minutes to the town centre where you arrive crossing a bridge with amazing views. The camping is 18 euros per day that you pay in the machine when you leave as it is automatic, there is no staff. It has all the services you need but the showers are 50 cents for 2 minutes and only for that I don’t give it 5 stars, the rest is great with big plots.

We crossed the bridge and we found one of the most magical and beautiful villages we have ever seen, with restaurants with its terraces hanging over the river, full of flowers, watermills, views of Visconti Bridge and lovers’ locks, as the village is very romantic!

Inside the fortified village, you find the San Marco Church from the 13th century and at the end of the village you can see the Scaligero Castle on the top of the mountain which you can arrive following a very steep path.

We went to see the 16th-century Visconti Bridge also called a long bridge. It was built in 1393 and completed in 1395 by Gian Galeazzo Visconti, Duke of Milan. The central cone is situated almost astride the Mincio, now visible are the lateral parts of the arches and the bases for resting on the bottom of the River Mincio. The views of the village from the bridge are stunning!

We finished our visit having an early dinner in the village square, in the Restaurant La Ruota where we ate pizzas for less than 10 euros each with a bottle of Pinot Grigio. The pizzas were really good! The owner was very nice and funny and I tried to practise my Italian with him, we laugh a lot as I am learning Italian and I hope to be fluent when we come back at the end of July. He invited us to a shot of Limoncello. A curious thing is that from the toilet window, you see the river water pass!

And the next stop is Venice! The first time for both of us and we really liked it, it is very impressive! which you can see in the next post.
