Dali’s House and Cadaques (En)

We went to Cadaques, the road is a very windy road in the mountains. My mobile stopped working so we have to follow Ben’s mobile. We arrived at Cadaques and the GPS took us through the town until we arrived at the town centre on the beach. The GPS was telling us to turn left but that was a narrow road fit for a motorbike only! We did not know what to do, so we stopped in the middle of the place and asked a couple what to do as we couldn’t turn around or do anything. Very stressful. The couple told us that we could keep going up and follow the road until we arrive at the cemetery. We keep going up this narrow cliff road and then we have to ask again to another couple to find the cemetery. Finally, we saw the parking with the motorhomes parked. Took us an hour to find it! The parking is free and we could pass the night there.

From the parking to Dalí’s house was only 3 minute’s walk. On the way, you can see Dali’s house and on the roof of the house, there are two women’s heads. Outside of the house, there is a little fishing harbour, a bar and a beach restaurant. They told us to go to see the gardens first, so that is what we did. The gardens are full of olive trees, there are eggs all over the place and the swimming pool is amazing. The swimming pool has a penis shape, hope you can notice it. In the gardens, there is a man-made with roof tiles and boat wood and there is a cactus where people put their initials so we did the same.

Then we went inside the house, a tour guide show you the house and explain the different areas. In the hall, there is a stuffed polar bear that an English poet gave to Dali as a present. There is a room with pictures of Dali and Gala (his wife) with many famous people and there are two bathrooms one for Dali and the other for Gala. There is a room where if you say something in the middle the words repeat themselves with echo and in the bedroom, there is a mirror through which you can see the sunrise. There are only two original pictures that Dali never finish because when Gala died he never came back to the house. The rest of the original pictures and books are in the museum in Figueras.

When we finished we went for Asha and then to have lunch in the beach restaurant. We had the menu of the day with a jug of sangria. We ate seabass and prawns with veggies. The seabass was absolutely delicious! At the next table was a local woman who told to Ben that Cataluna was not Spain, it is a different country and that Catalan is a language more similar to the English language than Spanish. She was a separatist but we were cool and let her to her own. After lunch, we went to the beach for Asha to play and there were wild boars! We keep distance and we were ok.

We went back to the parking where our motorhome was because from there you go to the town, only 5 minutes walking, all downhill, so the way back was hard. That street was the one the GPS wanted us to take before, crazy! The town is very nice with narrow streets and the centre of the town and bars, restaurants etc on the beach.

We had some drinks in a bar with very good music and went back to the motorhome to pass the night. When we arrived at the parking was a wild boar!

The next day we went to a town called Port of the jungle. Our last stop in Spain. You can see it in the next post.
