France – Provence Alps – Castellane (En)

The small and pleasant town of Castellane, a stage on the Napoleon route, is surrounded by beautiful preserved mountains and sits on the banks of the Verdon River. Dominated by the silhouette of the famous rock of the chapel of NƓtre Dame du Roc.

The motorhome area in the town (43.846298, 6.51517 lat, long) costs 9 euros per day but some local French people told us that we did not have to pay, we do not know if the machine was not working or you don’t pay in this time of the year, but for us great, as we stayed 2 days free! In the area, you have services for filling and emptying grey and black water and also some toilets. We gave it 5 stars because is in the town and the area is surrounded by the river, mountains and the rock so the views are stunning! Thanks, Castellane!

Castellane is an old Provencal city with picturesque alleys, its fortified remains, such as the pentagonal tower and the clock gate, and the beautiful Marcel Sauvaire Square, the centre of Castellane’s animations. We went first to see the square where you can find the Town Hall and the Church of St Victor.

We decided to have lunch in one of the restaurants in the square as they were very lively. In this area of the Alps, there are a lot of bikers riding the road and stopping in the towns, so there are a lot of cute shops and restaurants. We ate in an Italian restaurant and we had pizzas, they were yummy and huge so we couldn’t finish them and take them with us for dinner!

After lunch, we went to see the town, its picturesque alleys, the Church of St Joseph, the Chapel of Notre Dame du Roc and the Clock Gate.

And from the Alps, we went to the French Riviera, to Cannes to see the town and visit Jason, a friend of Ben, which you can see in the next post!
