Spain – Galicia – Pontevedra (En)

Last Monday we arrived at Pontevedra, where we still are today so that we could see all the town. We parked in the motorhome area with services for filling and emptying the waters and WC and just 5 minutes walking to the old city. Pontevedra is known for its well-preserved old town and Gothic Santa Maria la Mayor Basilica. The San Domingos Ruins are the remains of a 14th-century convent. Nearby, the Sexto Edificio Museum showcases Galician art. Northwest of town, Mosteiro de Santa María de Armenteira is a 12-century Cistercian Monastery.

We went to the old town which is amazing with the buildings and streets all made of stone and narrow streets full of bars and restaurants.

We had lunch in one of the restaurants in one square where finally Ben tried the Galician Broth which has collard greens, potatoes and white beans and can have meat or not, we had one Vieira each which is a big scallop because they are really expensive and we finished sharing a cachopo pork fillet stuff with ham and cheese.

Yesterday Tuesday we went again to the old town where we saw the municipal market and then we went towards the northeast to see Illa das Esculturas, an island with outdoor sculptures and a bridge called Verdugo.

And today Wednesday we are preparing to go tomorrow to Portugal to a town called Vila Nova de Cerveira, the town nearer to the Spain border, only 50 kilometres from Vigo city. It is a village with an old town surrounded by a medieval wall with historical buildings and monuments inside. And this is in the next post! Bye bye Spain!
