Spain – Galicia – Lugo – Viveiro (En)

We arrived in Viveiro a town in Lugo province in Galicia last Sunday. We stayed in the municipal motorhome area, which is really good located as on one side you cross a bridge and you are in the town centre; on the other side, you arrive at the beach, with a beautiful park next to the area for Asha to play. Thanks to the town for providing a free site for motorhomes.

Viveiro is more than 900 years old and in its centre, you can discover monuments such as Puerta de Carlos V, Puerta do Valado and Puerta da Vila, three out of the six preserved gates that form part of the old town’s wall; the churches of Santa María and San Francisco-Santiago, the secluded squares and steep streets belonging to different guilds. Its popular architecture cannot go unnoticed either; its stunning houses with corridors, balconies and glazed galleries with the estuary create a spectacular image mirroring its beauty. To arrive at the town centre you cross a bridge in the estuary and see the first of the gates.

We stopped to have lunch in one of the typical bars on one of the narrow streets where they gave us a free tapa of chorizo really nice. We got lucky that we arrive early as at 1.30 pm were people queuing to take a table. We shared a plate of Padron peppers and a plate of Galician octopus with potatoes. Ben got a pepper really hot and suffer, hahaha. We ate with Ribeiro white wine, delicious. Ben said it was the best octopus he has tried, his first in Galicia.

After lunch, we crossed again the bridge and we went to see the beach via the nice park where was a really bizarre kind of duck called Cairina Mostacha, with its face red. The beach is beautiful with fine sand and Asha loved it!

On Tuesday we went to Valdoviño in Coruña province where we are now and you can see it in the next post!
