GREECE – Plataria (En)

After 20 hours on the ferry and sleeping on the bar’s sofas, we decided to go somewhere nearby to relax and chose Plataria. We only knew it was a beach town, and we loved it. Primarily used as a marina, it has developed into a tourist resort in recent years. It has a small centre by the port, charming tavernas, and a promenade along the beach.

Where to stay

We stayed at Camperstop Plataria Beach (39.44606, 20.2746 lat, long), a campervan area on the beach. It costs €15 without electricity and €20 with electricity. There is drinking water at each pitch. The area has everything: a water filling and emptying area, a chemical toilet, a shower with hot water and excellent pressure, a toilet with a seat and toilet paper, a washing machine (5 euros), rubbish bins, and, best of all, incredible views of the beach. The camperstop is run by two brothers, and they are great. George, who works afternoons, drove Ben to buy a Greek butane gas canister, and we left one of our Spanish gas canisters there to pick up when we catch the ferry again in July. There’s a really cool taverna 100 meters away, and the town centre is a 10-minute walk. I highly recommend it; we’ll stay there again when we have to catch the ferry back to Italy.

What to see

One day, we walked along the seafront promenade to the town centre. The promenade is very pretty, with a wooden bridge and a really cool statue, where we took photos of the town and strolled along the beach.

The marina is very cute, with small yachts and sailboats. On the other side of the harbour, there’s graffiti with the town’s name.

We spent the rest of the time walking around and enjoying the beach.

After spending several days in this beautiful place, we decided to go to Ammoudia, a small and charming fishing village that you will be able to see in the next blog post.
