France – La Forêt-Fouesnant (En)
Facing the ocean, this Breton village is ideally located between Bénodet and Concarneau. Along its hiking trails, you can discover its old port, its majestic granite church, its long sandy beach, and its marina, Port-la-Forêt.
Where to stay
We stayed in the village’s motorhome area (47.909635, -3.985184 lat, long). It costs €13.20 per day and includes water, electricity, Wi-Fi, sewage disposal, and household waste. Next to the area are basketball courts and a ping-pong table, which we used! It’s a 5-minute walk from the centre, shops, and restaurants. It’s a 15-minute walk from the beach and the port. Recommended for a few days.
What to see
We walked to the centre and the first thing we came across was the Church of Our Lady Izel Vor, a 16th-century granite church, which we were able to visit inside.
We continue walking toward the beach and the port and come across Mesmeur’s mansion, dating from the second half of the 18th century. The main building is flanked by two slightly projecting wings topped with triangular pediments. Today, the mansion has become the clubhouse of the Golf de Cornouaille, located between the ocean and the course, offering panoramic views of the bay and the Glénan archipelago.
Continuing our tour along the beach and the port, we reached a fish pond. These are companies that own water basins for storing shellfish and crustaceans. The one we visited sells fresh seafood (oysters, shrimp, crayfish, crabs, lobsters, mussels, clams, etc.) or cooked seafood, and has a terrace where you can eat. The terrace was full, so we decided to buy a huge spider crab for only 9 euros! It was delicious!
Our next stop for one day was Saint Caradec, known for its picturesque landscapes and traditional Breton architecture, which you can see in the next blog!
