England – Cotswolds – Burford (En)
Burford is popular with visitors, both for its beauty and history, as well as for its antiques and the great variety of places to eat, with restaurants, pubs, and tearooms. Wonderful alleys and side streets await exploration, and alongside a cluster of medieval houses is St John’s Church, a lasting monument to Burfords’ medieval wealth.
What to see
We parked in the car park next to the River Windrush, with great views of the medieval three-arch bridge and its impressive St John’s Church. This beautiful church is a real gem with many interesting monuments tracing some of Burford’s great families, including the ostentatious Tanfield Tomb, where if you look beneath the grave you can see a complete corpse!
We then walked along the famous High Street flanked on both sides by an uninterrupted line of old houses and shops.
What to eat
There are loads of places to eat. We decided on a small bakery with two tables outside that seemed very popular. We decided to share a Cornish Pasty, which was huge. So we ate for £4!
With Burford we finish our tour of the Cotswolds, our next visit is to Evesham, a medieval town located on the River Avon, which you can see in the next blog!
