Germany – Black Forest – Villingen-Schwenningen (En)
Villingen-Schwenningen is located right in front of the natural landscape of the Black Forest and offers everything that distinguishes a small metropolis. It is a rather strange “city” created in 1972. It has a compact historic centre with numerous places of interest from its origins in the original history of the Grand Duchy of Baden.
Where to stay
We stayed in the town’s motorhome area (48.057462, 8.447644 lat, long), it is free and a 5-minute walk from the centre through a very nice park. It has no service and is for 2 large caravans and a van at most. Maximum stay 3 days. We slept well at night, without noise.
What to see
We walked with Asha and found that throughout the old town, there was a street market full of stalls selling local products and food. We saw how they made the grilled salmon. They do this market twice a year, and we were lucky enough to visit the city on the day the market was on, with a great atmosphere.
The remains of many of the defensive fortifications which protected the town are still visible, with the towers and town wall surrounding the current pedestrian area, town hall and cathedral.
German Barbecue
This is the town where our friends Ralf and Gaby live. We went to their house where we had a German barbecue, in an open barbecue in the garden, with typical sausages from the area, where some were like “chistorra” in Spain which were Ben’s favourites, chicken, pork chops, salad, and pork ribs, for me what I liked the most.
The next day we went to Freudenstadt, the north of the Black Forest, a popular tourist destination known for its arcaded market square, the largest in Germany, which you can see in the next post!
