FRANCE – Berck (En)

Berck is a commune in the northern French department of Pas-de-Calais. It lies within the Marquenterre Regional Park, an ornithological nature reserve. It is known for its seal beach, where a colony of seals has settled in Authie Bay, and for its incredible sunsets.

We arrived at Berck in the evening and we stayed in the motorhome area (50.3973, 1.56467 lat, long) next to Seal Beach. It is 12 euros per day, but we arrived at 7 pm and left the next day before 9 am so we did not pay anything! It does not have services, only water.

The location is perfect because is next to Seal Beach where at the moment there is a group of 30 animals. They can be observed during low tide when they rest on the sandbank starting at 7 p.m. We went to see them and walked the promenade until we arrived in the town. On our walk, we saw an amazing sunset, the Maritime Hospital, the Monument Des Internes which is a monument for the disappearance of two intern doctors from the Maritime Hospital and the Berck Lighthouse.

We arrived at the town where you will find a giant Ferris wheel and the name kites in big letters on the promenade as every year, in April, they celebrate the Kites Festival. We walked through the town until we arrived at the square of the Notre-Dame-des-Sables Church, a very peculiar catholic church where carpenters of the navy built its nave. Notre-Dame-des-Sables is more than a century old. The buildings and houses of the town caught our attention, all different, eclectic and colourful, we loved it!

The next day we went to Sotteville-sur-Mer a charming little village on the Alabaster Coast which you can see in the next post!
