ITALY – Lavello (En)
We arrived to Bari at 9 am, and took more than 2 hours to go out of the ferry, so we decided to go to Lavello, a town with a motor home area free, with electricity and water.
Lavello is a town in the province of Potenza, in the region of Basilicata of southern Italy. The small town extends along a rocky headland which overlooks the central valley of the Ofanto river and is an agricultural and farming centre famous its artisans, specialized in hammered copper and wrought iron.
We stayed at the motor home area (41.43648, 15.78847 lat, long) which the town provides free, with electricity, water and wifi from the municipal building next to it. The first thing we did was to go to lunch, it looks like that the restaurants open from 7 pm and closed at 2 pm. We went to Piper Cafe, a bar which has snacks and typical food. We shared wraps very nice and drunk an amazing ice coffees, mine with Baileys. The staff are really nice and I could practice my Italian with them. We asked them if they could give us some ice to take with us and they gave us a full bag of ice.
In the evening we went to see the town, which has several churches from the 12 century, a castle which today is the seat of the town hall, and also hosts an Aquarium with items of the Greek period, and 4 rural fountains and other fountains inside the inhabited area.
The town in the evening and night is very lively, full of people. There is a peatonal street with many bars and restaurants. We decided to have dinner in the Restaurant Pizzeria Europeo, where we shared a pizza with ham, prosciutto, artichokes, mushrooms and olives, and the typical restaurant spaghetti with ham, prosciutto, cheese and sausages. Both were delicious and only 7 euros each.
The next day, we went to Sorrento, where we are now and where we have a wedding, and you can see all this in the next post.
