FRANCE – Loire Valley – Meung-sur-Loire (En)

From Belgium, we went to Loire Valley in France, to a town called Meung-Sur-Loire where we can stay free in a motorhome area with electricity and water. The area is in front of the municipal pool, next to the football stadium, a park with the river Loire, and just 2 minute walk to the town centre. Very good to spend one or two nights free!

The first thing we did was to have a walk in the park and see the river and then go for a swim in the swimming pool. The swimming pool was very busy and it was a little peculiar as you go inside via the showers and there are men, women and children having showers with the swimming suits on, then you go out to the pool area. When we were going inside to the water, a woman came and told to Ben that he couldn’t go inside the pool with his swimming suit because it was too long (before the knees) and he needed speedo swimming short. So she went and brought one so he can put it on. One very short and big! Very funny!

In the evening we went to see the town. It is a small town with 6388 inhabitants only 17 Km from Orleans. It is a cheerful little town with half-timbered houses and flowers galore. It has a 13th-century chateau, often called the ‘Two-faced’ chateau because of its medieval facade on one side, and 18th-century front on the other. It features Alexander Dumas’ classic ‘The 3 Musketeers’ and is the country home of renowned Inspector Maigret.

When I was taking pictures of the chateau I did not see a curb and I fall, twisting my foot and ankle. My ankle swelled pretty bad and I couldn’t move for two days. So we stayed here swimming and watching a football match surrounded by police until Wednesday.

And on Wednesday we went to Landes, in the Aquitaine region and called the French Basque Country which you can see in the next post.
