SCOTLAND – Stonehaven – Dunnottar Castle (En)
We arrived in Scotland and passed one night in Barry Campsite between two towns and next to a golf club. The camping is really isolated, near 40 minutes walking to the nearest town. The facilities are ok, with electricity and empty waters etc but you need a code to access the bathrooms and showers and the camping is not very nice, surrounded by static caravans on one side. We walk a lot to the nearest town but apart from the golf club and a beach nor really nice it is nothing to see. So we just recommend it to stop and pass the night.
The next day we went to see Dunnottar Castle just outside of Stonehaven. The castle is a ruined medieval fortress perched atop a 160-foot rock and surrounded on three sides by the North Sea on the north-eastern coast of Scotland. The surviving buildings are large from the 15th and 16th centuries and were once an impregnable fortress of the Earls Marischal, once one of the most powerful families in Scotland.
The castle views are stunning, with the sea and cliff surrounding it. To arrive at the castle you go down via very narrow steep steps so for old people or people with physical problems is not easy, as the way up is very hard.
Inside the castle we found a skeleton, can you find it in one of the pictures?
Have you seen the skeleton? Sure you did! Then we went to the other side of the castle to take the last photos. The place is incredible and totally stunning!
And from here we went to Fraserburgh a coast town in the most northern part of Scotland, where the museum of lighthouses is. The town has 3 lighthouses, a massive harbour where you can see seals and suppose to have some of the best fresh fish and seafood in Scotland. All this is in the next post!
