Spain – Soria – Quintana Redonda (En)
We went to Quintana Redonda a town in Soria east of Castilla y León, and on our way, we passed a really cool town called San Esteban de Gormaz, on the banks of the Duero river, which was beautiful with the houses built on the mountains so I took some photos at a traffic light.
Quintana Redonda belongs to the Tierra de Almazán region, in the south of the province of Soria. Known for its pottery past, it has a museum space dedicated to ceramics, and in its municipal area, there is a Roman villa.
We stayed in the motorhome area of the town (41.631442, -2.610017 lat, long), which is very nice, surrounded by trees and little bridges, with all the services for fill and empty grey and black waters, and a toilet with shower for 1 euro. We did not use it so we don’t know if the shower works or has hot water. The services are very easy to use. The most incredible thing is that when we arrived it was only another motorhome and it was the same as ours! I have never seen another motorhome the same as ours, and the first time I saw one is in a town in the middle of nowhere in Soria province!
We went to see the town which is just 5 minute’s walk from the motorhome area. The town has a very nice church called Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, a ceramic thematic centre, a Facade Palace and a square where you can find the Town Hall.
We went inside the bar in the square called Bar Frías, where there is a sign on the door telling us that they want customers who smile, to see if we could have lunch but they told us they do not do food there. The bar owner and the regulars were really nice and very funny, we laughed a lot with them and told us to go to lunch in El Cuartelillo, which is a rural hotel with a restaurant in an old military base, and we went there. The place is really nice, with a terrace outside and the staff is very friendly. We had the menu of the day for 12 euros which included the first and second courses, bread, dessert, coffee and wine. I had the artichokes with ham and pine nuts for a starter, and because they only have one dish, Ben had scrambled eggs with mushrooms (Ben tried my dish and thought mine was nicer than his). For the second course, I had a mushroom risotto super yummy, the best risotto I have ever had! and Ben had quail with potatoes from the area. If you come to Quintana Redonda we recommend having lunch in El Cuartelillo, really good quality and price and going to have a drink in the Bar Frias, it is worth it but they only speak Spanish!
The next day we went towards Zaragoza to a town called Gelsa where our Dutch friends bought a house, to see them, see their new house and celebrate my birthday! And you can see all that in the next post.
