Spain – Asturias – Cudillero (En)
From Gijón, we went to a town called Cudillero because our friends Javi and Marta are from Asturias and when we saw them in Brussels they recommended to us a restaurant called El Pescador in this town to eat seafood. So we went to Cudillero and parked in a street on the top of the village, as you cannot go inside the town with the motorhome, there is only one road to go in and out. We parked in the street near the restaurant so we went and booked a table for lunch. We decided to share the seafood and fish platter, amazing! With clams, mussels, langoustines, scallops, calamari, turbot, monkfish, sole, hake and tuna. It was super yummy with special commendation to the clams, mussels, turbot and monkfish. We couldn’t eat all, so Asha had some fish for dinner. We really recommend it if you go to Cudillero.
The next day we went to see the town. To arrive you have to go down a very steep path and many steps at the end. Everybody told us to take a taxi to come back as the electric bikes will not go up either. Cudillero is a picturesque fishing village, declared a Historic-Artistic site, in which the houses hang from the mountain wearing cheerful colours. The taxi driver that took us back told us the homes have different colours because they used to paint them with the paint left from painting the boats. A legend said that it was founded by the Vikings and apart from the Spanish, some locals speak still a dialect called Pixueto. The Spanish media considers Cudillero one of the most beautiful towns in Spain.
Things to see in Cudillero are the hanging houses, the San Pedro church, the Chapel del Humilladero, the fishing harbour and the tunnel that we walked in full. The views going down to the town are breathtaking and we saw a typical granary converted into a house, really cute! The town is full of restaurants and bars with a fantastic ambience.
We had a drink in the town square and took a taxi to go back to the motorhome to pass the night, we recommend taking a taxi back, the path is very steep and the taxi is only 5 euros.
The next day we went to visit a town called Luarca.
