Germany – Lake Constance – Meersburg (En)
Meersburg is located on Lake Constance, the third largest lake in central Europe, the Rhine is its most important source and runs through three countries: Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The city has a medieval historical centre and an authentic medieval castle.
Where to stay
There are 3 areas for motorhomes in the town, we stayed in the third one which is the cheapest (47.7015, 9.27162 lat, long). 18 euros a day, without services, since to fill and empty you have to go to the first area, which costs 24 euros, the second area has electricity that you have to pay for and costs 20 euros. The areas are next to each other. The location is good since in a 10-minute walk you are in the centre of the beautiful town. Our area was also the emptiest and where we could park the three caravans together.
What to see
We all walked to the centre and saw the typical strawberry stand that you find everywhere in Germany, even on the roads when you travel. You cross a pedestrian tunnel and are in the old town with its alleys, squares and half-timbered houses that are like a fairy tale. We saw the town hall and you arrive at a square with an impressive building that on one side has a chapel whose interior is magnificent, it is worth seeing!
Then Ben, Asha and I went to see Meersburg Castle, a medieval fortress from the 7th century, with turrets and a drawbridge. You can visit it for 8.50 euros and can go with the dogs. We didn’t go in because there are 30 rooms to see inside. It is the oldest castle in Germany that is still inhabited. The lake views from the castle are stunning, and we saw a Zeppelin which Ben loved.
We went down the alleys with their shops and bars until we met up with our group where we had a few drinks.
We finish our tour by going to the shore of Lake Constance and going up one of the most emblematic streets of the town with an old entrance and exit door to the city.
In the evening Ben, Asha and I went for a walk around the parking lot and came across some vineyards with a horse and a hilarious donkey that came to greet us, which I called Stuart!
The next stop is Lindau, a small island or peninsula, on the shores of Lake Constance, in the state of Bavaria where you can already see typical architecture of Bavarian buildings and houses which you can see in the next post!

Wow, lovely. I had to do some catching up.
We love the pictures, it took us some time to see them all. 😉
The Rhine (Rijn in Dutch) goes through Holland, Germany and France (border) and ends in the Bodensee. It does not reach Austria.
Lots of love,
Cor & Marian
