Spain – Aranda de Duero (En)
Aranda de Duero is the capital of the Ribera del Duero region, in the south of the province of Burgos. It is also the main destination on the Ribera del Duero Wine Route. Its wines are excellent, and its underground wineries are among the town’s main attractions. Dating from the 13th to the 18th centuries, there are approximately 7 kilometres of these underground wineries.
Where to stay
We stayed in the town’s RV park (41.669983, -3.692026 lat, long). It’s completely free with about 11 RV sites. It’s right in the centre of town and has a drain for grey and black water, as well as a water refill. We arrived on a Saturday afternoon around 7 p.m., and there was plenty of room. I highly recommend it for exploring this beautiful town; we had a perfect, quiet night.
What to see
We crossed the Romanesque Bridge and arrived in the centre, where the first thing we saw was the Plaza Mayor (a square) surrounded by bars and restaurants with the Town Hall in front.
Near the square is the 15th-16th century Church of St. Mary, in the Isabelline Gothic style, with a south facade reminiscent of a large altarpiece, including relief sculptures of the Adoration of the Magi.
On one side of the church is the Bodega de las ánimas (Cellar of souls), a medieval wine cellar. We didn’t go inside because it was full. We continued on our way to the Church of San Juan Bautista, seat of the Aranda Council (1473), with a beautiful doorway formed by nine impressive archivolts, now the Sacred Museum.
What to eat
We wandered through the town until we reached another square full of bars and restaurants with a band playing music. We decided to have tapas at one of the bars in the square, where we were told the typical dishes were chips with bacon and cheese and pork rinds. I have to say, both were delicious!
With this stop, we leave Spain and cross into France, where our first stop was La Tranche-sur-Mer on the Vendée coast, famous for its long, sandy beaches and numerous water activities. You’ll be able to see it in the next blog!

Hi both,
Nice town. We were there too, many years ago.
We are in France too now. In Livers-Cazelles/Cordes-sur-Ciel on camping Moulin de Julien. Staying at least 2 nights.
There are 2 swimming pools on the camping and Cor can fish in a pond here. ;-).
Lots of love,
C & M xxx
We are now in a place called La Plaine sur mer, in the Vendee region, in the coast. Just arrived here yesterday. In a camping called L’Albatros, really good, 15 euros per day with a swimming pool, a restaurant where the most expensive dish is 7.50 euros and a bar with music. Near in the motorbike to the beach and a little town where there are oysters, Ben really happy for this. Hahaha.
