England – Iron Bridge (En)

Ironbridge is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It has a thriving tourist business and ten wonderful museums. Not to mention the world-famous Iron Bridge, which stands majestically over the River Severn.

Where to stay

We stayed in the car park right next to the bridge (52.626361, -2.483896 lat, long). We paid 2 pounds for 2 hours, but you can stay there all day and sleep for 8 pounds! There are no toilets, but there is a place to throw away rubbish, and you cross the famous bridge and are in the town centre.

What to see

The first thing you come across is the Iron Bridge Toll House, now a museum, just opposite the incredible Iron Bridge. This magnificent monument stands as one of the greatest symbols of where the Industrial Revolution began, the Ironbridge Gorge, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The views from the bridge of the River Severn and the village are incredible!

Since its construction in 1779 tourists have flocked to marvel at the extraordinary structure that dominates the small town that bears its name. The town has lovely shops and cafes where you can stroll along the riverbank and take more photos of the bridge and the landscape.

From here we went to The Cotswolds a beautiful area of rolling hills, honey-coloured stone villages, charming market towns and some of the largest palaces and castles in the country, which you will see in the next blog!
