Czech Republic – Veselí nad Lužnicí (En)
Veselí nad Lužnicí is a small village in the Tábor district in the South Bohemian region, near the shore of the Lužnice River, where people gather for fishing, kayaking, picnicking and other activities.
Where to stay
We stayed at what they call the town campsite, which is a grassy area outside the bar (49.18817, 14.701185 lat, long). The place is very nice, on the river bank and outside a beer garden which gets lively in the afternoons, since the townspeople come to fish, have picnics and use kayaks, and a 3-minute walk from the town centre. They charged us 18 euros, 2 euros for the dog! Which seems very expensive to us, since the facilities are quite rustic. The bathroom is fine with paper and the door can be closed, but in the showers, the door cannot be closed and they are all in a row without curtains, so anyone who enters sees you naked taking a shower! We didn’t find anywhere to empty the water, the chemical toilet could be emptied in the bathrooms, and to fill water the man at the beach bar opened an area where you could put your hose. In short, the place is expensive, what is very good is the bar and the pension restaurant with good and very cheap typical food! As an anecdote, on our second day there, the police came to tell us that we had to move further into the grass area because the circus was set up where we were parked! The circus follows us from country to country!
What to see
The town is small with a main square where the Town Hall and the statue of Josef Zeman are located and at the top of the town you find the Povýšení svatého Kříže church.
We finished the day walking along the river bank and having a few drinks at the beach bar.
What to eat
We went to eat at the pension restaurant which was full of local people. They have a menu of the day for 6.50 euros including soup and a dish. We ordered a la carte, I ordered a fried cheese with roast potatoes and tartar sauce and Ben ordered pork liver with roast vegetables and aioli. With a jug of beer and white wine, all for 24 euros! We shared the potatoes and the delicious vegetables!
Our next stop was Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic, nicknamed “the city of a hundred spires”, known for its old town square, the heart of its historic core, which you can see in the next post!
