Spain – Castellar de la Frontera (En)
Castellar de la Frontera is a Spanish municipality located in the province of Cádiz, it has two population centers: Castellar New, the administrative headquarters and the main town of the municipality. It was built in 1971 and practically the entire population moved here on that date. Nice to take a short walk and try the typical food. On the other hand, there is the castle of Castellar or Old Castellar, which is the true attraction of the town. A perfectly preserved medieval wonder that leaves everyone who visits it speechless.
What to see
We begin our visit in Castellar New, where we find Andalucía Square, where its church is located with a large tower, sculptures and a pergola. Just outside the square is the town hall. In any of its bars you can taste the most traditional cuisine, with classic game dishes, and that is what we did. We had lunch at a bar at the top of the square, where we shared a delicious plate of roast meats.
The Castle or Old Castellar, with stone streets, flowers, white facades and a castle-fortress from the 14th century. The town is listed as one of the most beautiful towns in Spain, it is located at the top of a mountain belonging to the Alcornocales Natural Park, within the walls of the medieval fortress. We loved it as it is beautiful!
The town is small so it doesn’t take long to walk through each of its alleys and squares. Some of the streets have the typical whitewashed houses of southern Spain, but other facades show exposed stone. On our tour we met a local who was talking to some guys who have a travel page on YouTube called Pakspan and who interviewed us for their program, which you can see here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jFSFwTv72gQ where we came out in the 8th minute.
They told us that we had to see the balcony of the lovers, a balcony with the best views of the Alcornocales park.
We continue touring the little town where you find the fortress, whose construction dates back to the 13th century. Today it is a hotel where one can enjoy a magnificent rural stay.
And so we finish our visit to one of the most beautiful towns in Spain, and next Wednesday we begin our new tour this year, where we will take you to new places in Spain, France, Germany and other countries that you will discover on our blog!
