Albania – Kusi Lake (En)
There are more than 240 natural and an incredible 800 artificial lakes in Albania, numbers that are staggeringly high considering the country’s relatively small size. Kusi Lake and the surrounding territory are evaluated as one of the most picturesque and biologically clean areas among the surroundings of Tirana, the capital of Albania.
We stayed at Camping Tirana (41.33815, 19.706583 lat, long) located at the lake with amazing views. The problem was the uphill dirt road to arrive at the camping where only one vehicle can pass. We followed a French motorhome bigger than us and we make it. The camping has two areas, one below which is like a field and the other on the top where the facilities and electricity are located and where we parked. The owner told us that we only could stay there that day as the next day a big group was coming and they booked the top area, so we have to move to the field below. The weather said rain for that night and the next day from 10 am for the week! No way that we will stay in that field raining and muddy and make that road full of mud, so we said to the owner that we will be leaving the next day really early before the rain so we did not stuck in the road. Also, the price suppose to be 12 euros per day and the owner told us we have to pay 16 euros!
We do not recommend this camping to big campers and motorhomes in bad rainy weather because it is a dirt road for 1 Km and uphill!
We went to see Kusi Lake which we enjoyed a lot because it is beautiful. Ben dared to climb on the footbridge where half of the wood was falling apart!
We went back to the camping where we met our neighbours, Ralf and Ruth, a German couple really nice who came from Greece and were going towards Croatia, so we changed the information regarding where to stay and what to see. We passed the evening with them having some drinks! Hope to meet them again in some place!
The next day super early we escaped before the rains. The way down that dirt road was a nightmare! Later we found out that the other motorhomes had a lot of trouble getting out of there!
And on a safe road, we went to Elbasan, the fourth most populous city of Albania which you can see in the next post!
