BELGIUM – Bruges Part I (En)

Last Friday we arrived in Belgium, to Bruges and parked in the municipal parking for motorhomes. Perfect place to visit the city as it has electricity and you can empty the grey and black water and also fill the water. Just 10 minutes from the city centre and next to the port, the mini waterpark which is really beautiful and the love path where the people go to marry (we saw a wedding on the path). On our way to the centre, we passed through a monastery where is a museum, the church of our lady and the Saint John hospital. We also saw the Boniface bridge and the Rozenhoedkaaicanal.

Bruges is distinguished by its canals, cobbled streets and medieval buildings. In the city centre’s Burg square, you can find the 14th-century Stadhuis (City Hall) and nearby, Markt square features a 13th-century belfry with a 47-bell carillon and 83m tower with panoramic views. There is also a medieval building which is the torture devices museum and Gruuthusemuseum which is an ancient palace museum housing historic furniture, sculpture and tapestries.

Before we went to the City Hall and Markt squares we saw all the above and have a beer in a really cool bar with more than hundreds of different beers, I tried one with cherry flavour. Bruges is known also for its chocolate and there are many chocolate shops with all kinds of chocolates, also Tintin and Milu and the smurfs are Belgium.

Finally, we arrived at Burg square where a band scenery was in front of the city hall, so not good for the pictures and a free historic chapel. From here we went to the Markt square where the belfry is and there are many restaurants and bars.

At 2 pm my friends Javi and Marta who live in Brussels arrived to have lunch and pass the day with us. This is in the second part!
