Cullera – Old Town and Fishing Harbour (En)

On Saturday we went to visit the old town thinking in go up to see the castle also. The old town does not have too much to see, the nice thing is the market next to the church and the narrow streets with views of the castle. Inside the market, there is a garden and terraces and it is very nice.

There were many children throwing firecrackers in the centre and old town and poor Asha was shaking, really scared, having a really bad time. So we decided to go far away from the centre of the town, so we went to see the fishing harbour as we did not see it yet. The fishing harbour is in the Jucar river. We followed the river until the sea and before arriving at the beach we saw a place full of motor homes, not proper camping with facilities etc but they can park there. One was a kind of truck, with a second floor on the top! Really bizarre.

We followed all the beach until arrive at the seafront avenue, and after walking near 2 hours we found a nice and cheap place in front of the sea to have a drink and something to eat. The sangria is one of the best I have tried. We ate boquerones (fried anchovies, I think Malaga ones are better), prawns (really good) and coquinas (kind of clams, really good also), every ration for only 6.50 euros!. The rations look small but they are not, we were totally full when we finished eating. By the way, this kind of clams have a different name here than in Malaga, and the prawns they called quisquillas (for me quisquillas are really small prawns and these were normal size). We recommend the restaurant.

For those of you that have dogs, avoid also firecrackers and fire works, they do not like them at all. Either thunder and strong noises. Next blog the castle!
