FRANCE – Neufchatel-Hardelot (En)

Neufchâtel-Hardelot is a charming coastal town in the Pas-de-Calais department, famous for its lively Hardelot-Plage resort, surrounded by dunes and pine forests. We went there because it is very close to the Calais ferry and has a free motorhome area right next to the famous beach.

Where to stay

We stayed at the free motorhome area at Hardelot Beach (coordinates 50.626301, 1.5814), just two minutes from the beach. The site has no facilities other than trash bins, but it is safe and quiet for sleeping. There were quite a few other motorhomes there. You can walk to the town centre in 10 minutes along the seafront promenade.

What to see

We went to the beach and walked along the seafront promenade. The beach boasts over 10 kilometres of clean, golden sand—ideal for strolling, relaxing, and land sailing. Along the promenade, you can see photographs of the town from the World War II era.

Continuing along the promenade, we reach the town centre, which offers an elegant and refined atmosphere with local shops, cafés, and restaurants. The tree-lined avenues feature magnificent Anglo-Norman villas from the 1920s and Art Deco buildings from the resort’s golden age.

We left this small town and headed to Berck, famous for its international kite festival, its colony of wild seals, and its wide sandy beaches—which you’ll see in the next blog post.
